We've received reports from several customers that Japanese Beetles have been spotted on their plants. Japanese Beetles are
devastating pests that feed on nearly 300 different species of landscape plants, usually starting at the top of the plant and working
their way downward. A single beetle is usually not a cause for concern, but a large group can cause considerable damage to your plants. When caught early, a small number of insects can be treated with a spray such as Sevin, Bayer Rose and Flower, K+ Neem, or many others. Sprays will be most effective when applied either early in the morning or late in the day because that is when the beetles are most active. If you have a larger infestation, bait and traps can be very effective. Just remember to place the trap AWAY from your garden to lure the beetles outside of the area. Placing one near your plants may attract even more insects. You'll find all these solutions as well as advice from our garden professionals at Estabrook's in Yarmouth, Scarborough or Kennebunk. If you see signs of trouble, feel free to drop by, give us a call or send us an email with your questions or concerns. |
