There are sixteen varieties of the Mentha mint plant. All of the varieties share the trait of taking on a particular taste and several varieties share various flavor nodes that exhibit sweet and savory traits.

| 'Chocolate' features small, rounded to lance-shaped, glossy dark green leaves tinged with burgundy and terminal spikes of small lavender flowers in July. The leaves have both a chocolate-mint fragrance and taste.
