Linaria (Toad Flax)
Toadflaxes have flowers that pop open when squeezed -- just like snapdragons. Native to Morocco, which their species name reflects, these plants should be better known for their cool season color in warmer climates and all summer blooms in cool locations.
Tiny, violet-purple, snapdragon-like flowers appear amid fine, thin foliage and stems that give the entire plant an airy texture. A drought tolerant selection, it self-sows readily if happy. Shear after the initial flowering to promote a second bloom.
