Give Mom the Official Plant of Mother's Day

Endless Summer Hydrangea Thanks to their ability to grow on both new and old wood, the Endless Summer collection of Hydrangeas has become one of the most heralded landscape plants in history.

Now, Endless Summer Hydrangea has become the official plant of Mother's Day!

Whether mom is an avid gardener or just wants to have a great looking outdoor space, a plant from the Endless Summer Collection is a gift she'll enjoy for years to come. Plus, each plant even comes with it's own Mother's Day gift tag!

Choosing a Mother's Day gift from the Endless Summer Collection could make Mom's day even brighter. Visit Estabrook's to enter the Endless Summer Spa-Tacular Sweepstakes and you could win a $500 Luxury Spa Day package for mom. There's no purchase necessary.

To keep your Endless Summer Hydrangea looking its best, we recommend following these tips:

Location

Location, location, location! Yes, that old saying is true. The location of your hydrangea in the garden will have the largest impact on bloom production. We recommend planting your Hydrangeas in a location that enables them to receive at least 6 hours of sun with some dappled shade in the afternoon.

Endless Summer Hydrangea Pruning

Don't treat your Endless Summer Hydrangeas like an Annabelle Hydrangea by cutting them back in the fall or early spring. By cutting to the ground or within a few inches of the ground, most if not all of the buds on old wood are being removed. In addition, the old blooms of Endless Summer add to the winter interest of your garden.

Winter Cover

Protection for plants in the first few years is important, as is protection from spring freezes. Since Hydrangea buds emerge early in spring, late freezes may damage bud development as well as any new growth. Keeping the crown of plants covered with mulch through May helps protect these buds and any soft new growth.

Fertilizer

Fertilization is also an important factor in flower production of Hydrangeas. A good quality, slow-release fertilizer applied once in spring or early summer should suffice for all but the most demanding locations. Look for an NPK ratio of around 10-30-10.

Watering

The amount you water is one more factor you can regulate to ensure beautiful blooms. While regular deep waterings are important, your hydrangeas will form large leaves, lots of green growth and few flower buds if over-watered. Like your other landscape plants, we recommend watering 2-3 times a week.

A Gift for Mom, Hope for Millions

Pink Ribbon Plants What if instead of giving one Mother's Day gift this season, you could give millions?

Pink Ribbon Plants combine distinctive, superior landscape plants with a great cause to help find a cure for breast cancer, the number one disease that faces women today.

Since 2003, the Pink Ribbon Plants program has raised more than $30,000 to help fund breast cancer research by donating 10% of the wholesale cost of each plant sold. In 2005 the program partnered with The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to preventing and finding a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime.

This charity has been rated as one of the best in America with a minimum of 85 cents of each dollar donated from the sales of these plants going directly to fund clinical and genetic research worldwide along with helping fund breast cancer awareness programs.

You can discover more about how the money from the Pink Ribbon Plants program works by visiting www.bcrfcure.org or by calling toll free to 1-866-FIND-A-CURE.

The following Pink Ribbon selections will make a perfect Mother's Day gift for your Mom and millions around the globe. Look for them in their showy pink pots dressed up with a distinctive Pink Ribbon Plant tag.

Rhododendron 'Bubblegum'

This plant boasts a dense rounded form and large trusses of bubblegum pink flowers in late April. Small foliage that is deep green with hints of bronze complete the look and will grow a deeper bronze in the winter.
Dianthus 'Spangled Star'

The red flowers of 'Spangled Star' are spotted and edged in pink. They bloom for a long period in June and July, providing an extended vibrancy in the garden.
Helleborus 'Brandywine'

A great mix of flower forms and true colors - from anemone, picotee and spotted forms in colors ranging from dark reds, pinks, apricots and everything in between!
