Fall Planting Guide

Take advantage of the cooler weather and save big on trees and shrubs
Fall is a great time to plant! The weather is cool and it's a great time for plants to establish roots.
You'll also be able to enjoy the landscape you've always wanted without breaking the bank thanks to 15-50% savings on all trees, shrubs and perennials.
To get your new trees and shrubs into the ground and ensure their future health, simply follow our easy instructions:
How to Plant Your Tree or Shrub
- Dig a hole almost as deep as the plant's root system and twice as wide.
- Loosen the soil surrounding the hole. If the plant is pot bound, score the roots with a sharp blade or knife.
- Set the plant in the hole at the same depth as it was previously planted in the pot or at the top of the balled and burlapped root ball. Do not remove the burlap from the root ball unless the burlap is non-biodegradable.
- Untie all string around the top of the root ball. Do not remove the wire basket.
- Amend the existing soil dug from the hole with peat moss, cow manure or compost. Add one shovel of soil amending material to three shovel fulls of existing soil.
- Run water from the garden hose gently into the hole as you fill it with soil.
- Firm the soil around the base of the plant with your hands. Make a shallow basin with soil to hold water around the roots.
- Apply a root stimulant and complete your planting by mulching with a 1-2" layer of bark or other material to help maintain moisture.
- Appropriate watering is critical to the health and survival of your plant. Requirements will vary depending upon soil and weather conditions. Plants should not be allowed to dry out or sit in standing water. Deep waterings are most beneficial. Soaker hoses under mulch are also a good method of watering.
