Position summary

Estabrook’s is seeking a motivated, self-directed Lead Supervisor who can lead by example in a fast-paced retail garden center. This position supports daily store operations, customer service, staff supervision, merchandising, inventory and plant care.

The position follows the seasonal needs of the business. From April through October, the Lead Supervisor is based at our Kennebunk location. From November through March, the position moves to our Yarmouth location to support winter operations, holiday sales and preparation for the next growing season.

Responsibilities

Operations

Assist with daily garden center operations, including opening and closing as needed.
Support scheduling, labor management and daily task assignments.
Maintain store cleanliness, organization, safety and compliance with company procedures.

Customer service

Assist customers with plant selection, gardening advice and product recommendations.
Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly.
Promote a positive shopping experience that encourages repeat business.

Team leadership

Supervise and motivate staff during assigned shifts.
Train new employees and provide coaching and performance feedback.
Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Merchandising, inventory and plant care

Maintain displays, pricing and signage.
Assist with receiving shipments, stocking inventory and communicating replenishment needs.
Oversee watering, fertilization, pruning and general plant maintenance.
Monitor plant health and identify pest or disease issues.

Sales and financial performance

Support sales initiatives, seasonal promotions and sales goals.
Help control operating expenses.
Process transactions accurately and assist with cash-handling procedures.

Qualifications

Education in horticulture and strong knowledge of annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and gardening products is required.
Two to three years of retail experience, preferably in a garden center, nursery, greenhouse or home improvement environment.
Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
Strong customer service, communication, organization and problem-solving skills.
Basic computer and point-of-sale experience.
Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced, seasonal retail environment.
Dependable, positive attitude with strong attention to detail.

Physical requirements and work environment

Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Walk, bend, stoop, twist, reach, push and pull frequently.
Spend much of the workday standing and moving materials.
Work indoors and outdoors in heat, cold and rain.
Navigate first- and second-floor offices in older buildings with stairs.
Work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
